BEIJING (Asian Metal) 17 Mar 23 - Dragged by the increasing supply from international suppliers and relatively stable demand, the current mainstream prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in the US moved down by USD0.05/lb Si to USD1.86-1.90/lb Si D.D.P from early last week. Given the weakening demand, insiders predict the mainstream prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in the US would go down further next week.
A trader in the US disclosed that his current offer for silicon metal 5-5-3 stands at USD1.95/lb Si D.D.P with the concession of USD0.05/lb Si at most for firm bids, but he still didn't close any deals this week, while he insisted on USD1.95/lb Si early last week. "The demand from aluminum plant didn't reduce obviously and keeps relatively stable but I got more lower offers from Norway and Thailand this week," revealed the trader on Thursday who last sold 100t at USD1.95/lb Si in early March. Given the increasing supply from international suppliers in the US, he predicts the mainstream prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in the US would move down further next week.
With a regular monthly trading volume for silicon metal around 200t in the spot market, the trader predicts to sell around 200t in March, unchanged from early last week, holding around 300t in stock.
A consumer in the US revealed that he bought 100t of silicon metal 5-5-3 at the price at USD1.87-1.90/lb Si D.D.P this week from a supplier who insisted on USD1.95/lb Si early last week. "Our consumption maintains relatively stable but we didn't sign long-term contract for Q2 and only purchase from spot market with cut volume, and we usually could purchase 400t every quarter but we prefer to purchase 100t every month now," revealed the consumer on Thursday. He added that the supply from Europe and Asia increased in the US, and he foresees the mainstream price of silicon metal 5-5-3 in the US would go down further next week.
