Chinese fused magnesia prices keep flat

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 17 Mar 23 - Considering dim market but high production costs, most suppliers hold their prices unmoved this week. Therefore, the current mainstream prices of Chinese fused magnesia MgO 97%min, Ca/Si=1min, B.D. 3.45min, 0-30mm stand at RMB3,300-3,400/t (USD478-493/t) EXW D/A 180 days, in line with early this week. In view of high production costs despite weak demand, insiders predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese fused magnesia would stay steady in the week to come.
A producer in Liaoning claimed, "We quoted RMB3,500/t (USD526/t) EXW D/A 180 days and considered no concession for fused magnesia MgO 97.2%min, Fe2O3 0.5%max, Ca/Si=1min, B.D. 3.5min, 0-30mm since early this week," adding that they last sold about 100t at RMB3,500/t (USD507/t) yesterday. Despite dim market, they plan to stick to their current price because they last purchased about 2,000t of magnesite lump, MgO 47%min, CaO 0.6%max, SiO2 0.7%max, Fe2O3 0.2%max at RMB450/t (USD65/t) delivered from Haicheng at the beginning of this month. They intend to stick to their current price and predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese fused magnesia would remain stable in the forthcoming week.
Based on the production capacity of 15,000tpy of fused magnesia, the producer predicts to produce approximately 1,000t in March, unchanged MoM. They hold nearly 500t of stocks now.
"We quote RMB3,200/t (USD464/t) EXW D/P and consider no concession for fused magnesia MgO 97%min, Ca/Si=1min, B.D. 3.46min since early this month, but received no inquiry after we sold about 65t at such price early this week", said another producer in Xiuyan. As they last purchased approximately 2,000t of magnesite lump MgO 47%min at RMB480/t (USD70/t) delivered from a local mine late last month, the producer prefer to hold their price firm and believes that the mainstream prices of Chinese fused magnesia would keep flat in the following week.
The producer, with an annual production capacity of 80,000t of fused magnesia, resumed production early this month due to the weak demand and predicts to produce about 1,000t in March. They have an inventory of nearly 500t at present.
