African tantalite export market sees inactive inquiries

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 16 Mar 23 - As most downstream consumers became cautious in purchasing at higher prices, African tantalite export market witnessed inactive inquiries in the past week. The mainstream export prices of African tantalite 30%min hover at USD105-108/lb Ta2O5 FOB Africa at present, unchanged from early last week. As most consumers watch the market, insiders predict that the African tantalite export market prices would remain stable in the coming week.
"We received no inquiry so far this week, while we received one inquiry last week," said an African trader, who offers USD106/lb Ta2O5 FOB Africa for tantalite 30%min and could accept USD105/lb Ta2O5 for orders no less than 2t at present, the same as early last week. They last sold about 2t to a regular client at around USD105/lb Ta2O5 early last week. Discouraged by inactive inquiries from downstream consumers, the trader prefers to watch the market next week and predicts that the mainstream prices would remain unchanged in the coming week as supply remains limited in the spot market.
The trader, with a regular monthly trading volume of 2t, expects to sell around 2t in Mach, unchanged from February. They sold nearly 15t in 2022 and around 6t so far in 2023. They hold no stock now, unchanged from last month.
An African producer noted that they received one inquiry so far this week, while they received two inquiries last week. They quote USD105/lb Ta2O5 FOB Africa for tantalite 30%min and could accept no counteroffers at present, unchanged from early last week. "Most of our clients remain cautious in placing orders since early last week and inquires reduced further this week," said the producer, who failed to conclude any deals after they last sold about 10t at around USD103/lb Ta2O5 to a regular client in early March.
