Chinese black silicon carbide prices stay steady

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 15 Mar 23 – Although the production costs remained high, most producers held their prices unchanged in the past week in view of the sluggish market demand. Hence, the current mainstream prices of Chinese black silicon carbide 98%min 10-30cm Fe2O3 0.6%max free C 0.2%max stand at RMB8,200-8,500/t (USD1,193-1,237/t) EXW D/A 180 days, on par with late last week. Considering that most producers would stick to their current prices on basis of the firm production costs, insiders estimate that the prevailing prices of Chinese black silicon carbide would keep stable in the following week.
A producer in Gansu claimed, "We offered RMB8,200/t (USD1,193/t) EXW D/A 180 days for black silicon carbide 98%min 10-30cm Fe2O3 0.6%max free C 0.3%max today with no concession, in line with late last week". They closed their last deal yesterday when they sold around 100t to Tianjin around RMB8,200/t (USD1,193/t). Despite the sluggish market demand, in view of the high production costs, they still intend to firm their prices and believe that the prevailing prices of Chinese black silicon carbide would keep steady in the week to come.
The producer, with an annual production capacity of 96,000t, expects to produce around 1,200t in March, unchanged MoM. They hold approximately 800t in stock right now.
Another producer in Gansu revealed that their prices for black silicon carbide 97%min 10-30cm Fe2O3 0.5%max free C 0.3%max today stood at RMB8,000/t (USD1,165/t) EXW D/A 180 days and could make no counteroffer, unchanged from late last week. The producer revealed, "We completed our last deal late last week when we sold about 200t at about RMB8,000/t (USD1,165/t) to a processor". Although their production costs stay in high level, they prefer to hold their prices unchanged in consideration of the weak end market demand and predict that the prevailing prices of Chinese black silicon carbide would keep stable in the coming week.
On basis of annual production capacity of 40,000t, they predict to produce around 1,200t in March, on par with February. Currently they hold an inventory of almost 800t.
