Baotou Steel restarts one wire rod production line

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 15 Mar 23 - As a major construction steel producer in North China, Baotou Iron and Steel Group Co. (Baotou Steel) resumed one wire rod production line from March 13, with output increased by around 2,000tpd.
"We restarted the other wire rod production line this Monday, which was suspended last November," said a source from Baotou Steel, adding that the output for wire rod will increase by about 2,000tpd. They plan to produce nearly 60,000t of wire product in March, up from 35,000t in February.
Baotou Steel owns an annual production capacity of 2.8 million tons for long steel and produced roughly 700,000t of the material in 2022. It recorded an output of almost 70,000t in the first two months of this year, holding an inventory of nearly 20,000t at present.
In Baotou, the mainstream price of rebar HRB400E Φ18-22mm stood at around RMB4,350/t (USD634/t) on Tuesday, similar to Monday. Upon firm prices of raw materials but weakening market performance, long steel prices would level off in coming two days.
