Chinese caustic calcined magnesia prices keep flat

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 15 Mar 23 - The current mainstream prices of Chinese caustic calcined magnesia MgO 97%min, SiO2 0.7%max, CaO 1.5%max, Fe2O3 0.7%max, 0-5mm stand stable at RMB1,750-1,850/t (USD255-269/t) EXW D/A 180 days from last Friday given thin profit and soft demand. Supported by the high prices of raw materials, insiders predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese caustic calcined magnesia would stay steady in the coming week.
A producer in Haicheng noted, "We quoted RMB1,550/t (USD226/t) EXW D/P and considered no concession for caustic calcined magnesia MgO 95%min, SiO2 0.4%max, CaO 1.1%max, Fe2O3 0.5%max, 0-5mm since last Friday, but received no inquiry today", adding that they last sold about 100t at such price a week ago. As they purchased approximately 5,000t of magnesite MgO 47%min powder at RMB290/t (USD42/t) delivered from a local mine at the beginning of last December, they prefer to keep their price firm despite low demand. They believe that the mainstream prices of Chinese caustic calcined magnesia would keep steady in the following week.
The producer, with an annual production capacity of 300,000t of caustic calcined magnesia, suspended production on December 10th, 2022 due to the epidemic and plans to resume late this month. They hold approximately 600t of stocks at present.
"We quoted RMB1,550/t (USD2226t) EXW D/P and refused any lower prices for caustic calcined magnesia MgO 95%min, SiO2 0.3%max, CaO 1.2%max, 0-5mm since last Friday", said another producer in Yingkou. They closed no deal yet since they last sold about 200t at such price half a month ago. As they purchased approximately 2,000t of magnesite MgO 47%min, CaO 1.5%max, SiO2 1.3%max, lump at RMB270/t (USD39/t) delivered from a local mine at the beginning of this month, they plan to keep their price firm in spite of low demand and believe that the mainstream prices of Chinese caustic calcined magnesia would stay unmoved in the following week.
Based on the production capacity of 50,000tpy of caustic calcined magnesia, the producer estimates to produce around 2,000t this month, similar to last month. They have about 2,000t of stocks now.
