BEIJING (Asian Metal) 14 Mar 23 - Dragged by weak demand from consumers, the Chinese battery grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min, 500g per block) market saw few deals over the past week. The mainstream prices of Chinese battery grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min, 500g per block) hovered at RMB23,000-24,000/t (USD3,340-3,485/t) EXW T/T 30 days, in line with one week ago. Suppliers have difficulties in concluding deals and have intention to lower prices a bit, so insiders forecasted that the Chinese battery grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min, 500g per block) mainstream prices have room to go down in the upcoming week.
A producer in North China noted that he quotes around RMB25,000/t (USD3,631/t) EXW T/T 30 days for battery grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min, 500g per block) and considers selling at around RMB24,000/t (USD3,485/t) now, the same as one week ago. He concluded his latest sale early this month, when he sold 20t at around RMB25,000/t (USD3,631/t). "I lack confidence towards the battery grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min, 500g per block) demand in the coming week," said the producer, who predicted that the Chinese battery grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min, 500g per block) mainstream prices would move down by around RMB500/t (USD72.6/t) in the coming week due to soft demand from consumers.
With an annual production capacity of 1,200t of battery grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min, 500g per block), the producer expects no production this month, unchanged MoM. He produced approximately 330t and 30t respectively last year and so far this year . He holds an inventory of around 100t at the moment, down by 20t MoM.
A consumer in North China disclosed that his regular suppliers quote around RMB24,000/t (USD3,485/t) EXW T/T 30 days for battery grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min, 500g per block) to him at the moment. According to his experience, he could buy at around RMB23,000/t (USD3,340/t) now, without much change from one week ago. "I last bought 20t at around RMB23,000/t (USD3,340/t) in late February," said the consumer, who has no intention to replenish stocks in the coming week due to poor demand of hydrogen storage alloy powder from his end users. As buyers purchase inactively, he foresaw downward prices in the Chinese battery grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min, 500g per block) market in the coming week.
The consumer, with an annual consumption capacity of 360t of battery grade LaCe mischmetal (Ce/RE 65%min, 500g per block), expects to use around 10t this month, without much change MoM. He consumed about 40t so far in 2023, compared with approximately 240t in 2022 . He has around two tons of stocks now, in line with mid-February.
