Chinese flake graphite market sees stable prices

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 14 Mar 23 – Most producers hold the prices stable today to maintain sales though they have no inventory pressure now. Therefore, the current mainstream prices of Chinese flake graphite -190, C 90%min, Volatile 2%max stand stable at RMB3,350-3,550/t (USD488-517/t) EXW D/A 180 days from last Friday. As most producers intend to stick to their current prices, insiders predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese flake graphite -190 would stay steady in the following week.
A producer in Heilongjiang claimed, "We offer RMB3,450/t (USD502/t) EXW D/A 180 days for flake graphite -190 and could accept no more concession since last Friday", adding that they last sold around 100t at such price mid last week. They intend to keep their price stable to maintain sales and believe that the mainstream prices of Chinese flake graphite -190 would remain stable in the week to come.
With a production capacity of 50,000tpy of flake graphite, they predict to produce about 1,500t in March, compared with nearly 1,000t last month as they resumed in early February. Now they have no inventory.
"We held our quotation for flake graphite -190 unmoved at RMB3,400/t (USD495/t) EXW D/P with no concession, unchanged from last Friday", said another producer from Hubei. They last sold about 20t at such price late last month. The producer intends to keep their price stable this week as the producer has few stocks and predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese flake graphite -190 would keep flat in the coming week.
Based on a production capacity of flake graphite of 30,000t, the producer halted production in July, 2022 because of the expiration of mining license and expects to resume in September. They hold stocks of nearly 130t at present.
