Chinese calcined bauxite export market sees unchanged prices

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 13 Mar 23 – In light of the stable domestic market, most exporters kept their prices unchanged in the past week, though the overseas market demand remain dormant. Hence, the current mainstream export prices for Chinese calcined bauxite Al2O3 86%min 1-3mm Fe2O3 1.8%max K2O+Na2O 0.45%max B.D. 3.15min stand at USD460-480/t FOB China, unchanged from early this week. Despite that domestic suppliers intend to raise prices based on the supply shortage of raw bauxite, in consideration of the weak overseas demand, most exporters plan to keep their current prices and predict that the mainstream export prices of Chinese calcined bauxite would keep steady next week.
An exporter in Tianjin revealed, "We held our price for calcined bauxite Al2O3 86%min 1-3mm Fe2O3 1.8%max K2O+Na2O 0.45%max B.D. 3.1min unchanged from early this week at USD425/t Ex-VAT FOB China and could give no discount". They closed their last deal a week ago when they sold about 200t to a client at USD425/t. Although their suppliers already told them the prices lifting, in view of the sluggish overseas market demand, they would stick to their prices to boost sales and predict that the prevailing export prices of Chinese calcined bauxite would keep stable in the following week.
The exporter, based on a typical monthly trading volume of 500t, expected to export about 500t in March, compared to about 400t last month. They have no stock at present.
Another exporter in Henan quoted USD430/t Ex-VAT FOB China for calcined bauxite Al2O3 86%min 1-3mm Fe2O3 2%max K2O+Na2O 0.45%max B.D. 3.15min max and could make no discount, on par with early this week. "We concluded our last deal this Tuesday when we sold about 80t to a European client at USD430/t", the exporter claimed. Although their domestic suppliers intended to lift prices, they prefer to keep their price unchanged given that their overseas buyers have soft purchasing demand and expect that the prevailing export prices of Chinese calcined bauxite would stay stable in the coming week.
With a regular monthly trading volume of 200t, they expect to sell about 200t this month, unchanged MoM. Currently they have no inventory.
