African tantalite export market prices up

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 9 Mar 23 - Encouraged by active inquiries from downstream consumers, African tantalite suppliers raised their prices in the export market in the past week. The current mainstream export prices of African tantalite 30%min rose to USD105-108/lb Ta2O5 FOB Africa, up by USD2/lb Ta2O5 from early last week. As most suppliers have confidence in the market, insiders predict that the African tantalite export market prices would increase further in the coming week.
An African producer claimed that they quoted USD110/lb Ta2O5 FOB Africa for tantalite 30%min and could accept USD108/lb Ta2O5 for orders no less than 5t today, while they offered USD108/lb Ta2O5 when they could accept USD106/lb Ta2O5 for the same quantity early last week. "We last sold about 5t at around USD106/lb Ta2O5 to a regular client early last week," said the producer, who received three inquiries so far this week, while they received only one inquiry last week. Encouraged by active inquiries from downstream consumers, the producer plans to raise their price by around USD2/lb Ta2O5 next week and predicts that the mainstream prices would increase by around USD2/lb Ta2O5 in the coming week.
With an annual production capacity of 60t, the producer would produce around 5t in March, unchanged from last month. They produced nearly 40t in 2022 and almost 10t so far in 2023. They hold no stock now, unchanged from last month.
"We offer USD108/lb Ta2O5 FOB Africa for tantalite 30%min and could accept USD107/lb Ta2O5 for orders no less than 5t at present, while we could accept USD105/lb Ta2O5 for the same quantity when we offered USD107/lb Ta2O5 early last week," said an African trader, who received four inquiries so far this week, while they received three inquiries in total last week. They last sold about 5t to a regular client at around USD105/lb Ta2O5 early last week. Considering tight supply and strong demand, the trader intends to raise their price by around USD2/lb Ta2O5 next week and predicts that the mainstream prices would increase by around USD2/lb Ta2O5 in the following week.
