Japanese green silicon carbide buyers expect stable prices

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 8 Mar 20 - With more and more Chinese green silicon carbide suppliers return to market, the Japanese green silicon carbide grain sand market became more active this week. Currently, the mainstream prices of Japanese green silicon carbide 98%min F240 Fe2O3 0.5%max free C 0.3%max stand at USD2,550-2,650/t Inc-VAT CIF Japan, unchanged from last week. Although the Chinese suppliers intend to lift the prices, given that Japanese buyers refuse to buy for higher prices, insiders predict the prices of Japanese green silicon carbide grain sand would stay stable in the coming week.
A consumer in Japan revealed, "Now the lowest acceptable price we received stands at USD3,450/t Inc-VAT CIF Japan for green silicon carbide 98%min F240 Fe2O3 0.5%max free C 0.3%max from a regular supplier in Shandong, unchanged from the lowest acceptable price last week. We just placed an order of 80t yesterday at USD3,450/t Inc-VAT CIF Japan." The consumer disclosed that they usually purchase before 15th of every month, and their monthly consumption volume stay around 200t. The consumer also noted that they would refuse any price higher than the current level the production costs kept steady, and the market supply stayed sufficient in the past two weeks. Therefore, they believe the prevailing prices of Japanese green silicon carbide grain sand would stay stable in the following week.
With an annual consumption capacity of 3,000t of green silicon carbide, the consumer expects to purchase around 260t in March, compared to about 220t in February. They have about 100t of stocks at present.
A trader in Japan disclosed, "Presently the lowest acceptable price we got stays at USD3,400/t Inc-VAT CIF Japan for green silicon carbide 98%min F240 Fe2O3 0.5%max free C 0.3%max from China, on par with late last week", adding that they last bought about 20t at USD3,400/t Inc-VAT CIF Japan in late February and expected to arrive next week. The trader also noted that they would delay their purchase plan if the Chinese suppliers intended to raise the prices in consideration of the weak market demand. Hence, they believe that the mainstream prices of Japanese green silicon carbide grain sand would remain unchanged in the forthcoming week.
