Chinese black silicon carbide producers keep prices stable

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 8 Mar 23 – In spite of the high production costs, most producers kept their prices stable this week in consideration of the weak market demand. Thus, the present mainstream prices of Chinese black silicon carbide 98%min 10-30cm Fe2O3 0.6%max free C 0.2%max stand at RMB8,400-8,600/t (USD1,211-1,240/t) EXW D/A 180 days, unchanged from early this week. As most producers prefer to hold their prices steady based on the high production costs, insiders believe that the prevailing prices of Chinese black silicon carbide would keep stable in the following week.
A producer in Gansu claimed, "We offered RMB8,400/t (USD1,211/t) EXW D/A 180 days for black silicon carbide 98%min 10-30cm Fe2O3 0.6%max free C 0.3%max today and made no discount, on par with early this week". They just sold out 66t this morning to a regular client t around RMB8,400/t (USD1,211/t). Despite that their regular clients cut down on purchasing volume due to dim end market, in view of the high production costs, they prefer to hold their prices in the current level and predict that the prevailing prices of Chinese black silicon carbide would stay unchanged in the week to come.
The producer, with an annual production capacity of 50,000t, plans to produce around 1,500t in March, unchanged MoM. They hold around 700t in stock presently.
Another producer in Gansu disclosed that their quotation for black silicon carbide 98%min 10-30cm Fe2O3 0.5%max free C 0.25%max today stood at RMB8,400/t (USD1,211/t) EXW D/A 180 days with no counteroffer, on par with early this week. The producer revealed, "We last sold about 120t late last week at about RMB8,400/t (USD1,211/t)". Although their production costs raised by almost RMB300/t (USD43/t) after the price rising of electricity charge, they prefer to keep their prices stable considering the weak end market demand and predict that the prevailing prices of Chinese black silicon carbide would remain stable in the coming week.
On basis of annual production capacity of 55,000t, they expect a monthly output of almost 3,300t in March, on par with February. Currently they hold an inventory of nearly 1,000t.
