BEIJING (Asian Metal) 8 Mar 23 - The Chinese terbium metal market witnessed soft demand and slow buying activities over the past week. The current Chinese terbium metal mainstream prices dropped to RMB13,900-14,100/kg (USD2,006-2,035/kg) EXW T/T 30 days, a decline of around RMB1,000/kg (USD144/kg) from one week ago
A producer in North China forecasted that the Chinese terbium metal mainstream prices would go down by around RMB200/kg (USD28.9/kg) in the forthcoming week due to weak demand from buyers and sliding terbium oxide 99 . 99%min prices. He lowers terbium metal quotation to about RMB14,000/kg (USD2,020/kg) EXW T/T 30 days and has intention to sell at around RMB13,900/kg (USD2,006/kg) now, while he refused to sell at prices below RMB15,000/kg (USD2,165/kg) one week ago. "I last sold 300kg of terbium metal at about RMB14,000/kg (USD2,020/kg) early this week," said the producer, who could purchase terbium oxide 99.99%min at about RMB11,000/kg (USD1,587/kg) EXW D/P at present, while he couldn't buy at prices below RMB12,000/kg (USD1,732/kg) one week ago.
With an annual production capacity of 48t of terbium metal, the producer expects an output of around 2.1t in March, without much change MoM . He produced approximately 29t and four tons respectively in 2022 and so far in 2023 . He holds an inventory of around one ton now, an increase of around 500kg MoM.
A consumer in North China foresaw further price declines in the Chinese terbium metal market in the upcoming week as buyers purchase inactively and lower target prices continuously. His regular suppliers quote about RMB14,100/kg (USD2,035/kg) EXW T/T 30 days for terbium metal to him at present. Based on his experience, he could buy at around RMB14,000/kg (USD2,020/kg) now, while he couldn't buy at prices below RMB15,000/kg (USD2,165/kg) one week ago. He concluded his latest procurement in mid-February, when he bought one ton at around RMB16,800/kg (USD2,424/kg) . "I plan to keep holding a wait-and-see attitude towards the terbium metal market due to abundant supply and sliding prices," said the consumer.
The consumer, with an annual consumption capacity of 36t of terbium metal, consumed about three tons so far this year, compared with approximately 24t last year. He estimates to use around two tons this month, without much change MoM . He has about one ton of stock at the moment, in line with early February.
