BEIJING (Asian Metal) 7 Mar 23 - Chinese samarium metal 99.5%min suppliers held prices steady over the past week due to their steady costs. As a consequently, the Chinese samarium metal 99.5%min mainstream prices hover at RMB83-85/kg (USD12.0-12.3/kg) EXW T/T 30 days at present, the same as one week ago. Although buyers have no intention to purchase in bulk, insiders forecasted that the Chinese samarium metal 99.5%min mainstream prices would still not change in the upcoming week.
A producer in North China disclosed that he holds samarium metal 99.5%min quotation firm at about RMB85/kg (USD12.3/kg) EXW T/T 30 days and refuses to sell at prices below RMB83/kg (USD12.0/kg) now, in line with one week ago. "I failed to conclude deals after my latest sale of five tons at around RMB83/kg (USD12.0/kg) in late February," said the producer. He couldn't purchase samarium metal 99.9%min at prices below RMB15,000/t (USD2,165/t) EXW D/P now, in line with one week ago. Therefore, he prefers to hold stocks rather than mark down prices in spite of weak demand from buyers. He forecasted that the Chinese samarium metal 99.5%min mainstream prices would continue hovering at current levels in the upcoming week.
The producer, with an annual production capacity of 250t of samarium metal 99.5%min, produced only around 17t of samarium metal 99.5%min so far in 2023, compared with approximately 103t in 2022. He expects an output of around five tons in March, without much change MoM. He holds an inventory of about 10t at the moment, the same as early February.
A consumer in South China noted that his regular suppliers still quote around RMB85/kg (USD12.3/kg) EXW T/T 30 days for samarium metal 99.5%min to him at present. Based on his experience, he couldn't bargain for any better prices if he would replenish stocks now, without much change from one week ago. He concluded his latest procurement in late February, when he purchased three tons at around RMB85/kg (USD12.3/kg). "Given the abundant supply and flat prices, I have no intention to purchase samarium metal 99.5%min again in the coming week," said the consumer, who couldn't bargain for better prices from his suppliers and predicted that the Chinese samarium metal 99.5%min market would still witness stable prices in the coming week.
