Handan Steel to restart rebar production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 7 Mar 23 - As one major rebar producer in Hebei, Handan Iron and Steel Co. (Handan Steel), a subsidiary of HBIS, plans to resume rebar production in the middle of this month and the planned output remains about 10,000t in March.
"Due to the production capacity movement, we stopped rebar production at the beginning of last August and would restart production after one week," said a source from the company, adding that the company plans to produce around 10,000t of rebar in March, against zero in February.
Handan Steel has two rebar production lines with an annual production capacity of 2.0 million tons. It recorded an output of almost 270,000t in 2022, down from 300,000t in 2021. It has no stock at present.
In Handan, Hebei, the price of rebar HRB400E Φ22mm stood at around RMB4,220/t (USD609/t) on Monday, down by RMB20/t (USD3/t) from last Friday. Discouraged by weakening prices of raw materials, rebar prices would edge down further in coming two days.
