Chinese spherical graphite market sees stable prices

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 7 Mar 23 - Though most producers have no inventory pressure now, they hold their prices unmoved today to maintain sales. The current mainstream prices of Chinese spherical graphite C 99.95%min, TAP 0.95-1g/cm3, SSA 7-8m2/g D50 17 μm max stand stable at RMB18,000-20,000/t (USD2603-2893/t) EXW D/A 180 days from last Friday. As most producers have no inventory pressure while the demand remains soft since most consumers built stocks in January, insiders predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese spherical graphite would keep flat in the following week.
A producer from Qingdao disclosed, "We kept the offer for spherical graphite C 99.95%min, TAP 0.95-1g/cm3, SSA 7-8m2/g, D50 17μm max unchanged at RMB18,500/t (USD2676/t) EXW D/A 180 days and consider no counteroffer since last Friday", adding that they last sold around 30t at such price early last week. Though they hold few inventories now, they prefer to keep their price to guarantee stable sales and believe that the mainstream prices of Chinese spherical graphite C 99.95%min would remain stable in the coming week.
With a production capacity of 15,000tpy, they expect to produce about 600t in March, compared with nearly 500t last month. They have an inventory of around 20t now.
"We held our offer for spherical graphite C 99.95%min, TAP 0.95-1g/cm3, SSA 7-8m2/g, D50 10μm max unchanged at RMB21,000/t (USD3037/t) EXW D/A 180 days with no concession from last Friday", said another producer in Luobei. They received no inquiry after they last sold about 20t late last month at such price. The producer intends to keep their price stable this week to keep smooth sales and predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese spherical graphite C 99.95%min would stay steady in the coming week.
Based on a production capacity of 10,000tpy, the producer predicts to produce about 800t in March, compared with approximately 200t last month as they resumed on February 20. They hold no stocks at present.
