Chinese high-grade silicon metal prices firm

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 2 Mar 23 - Supported by the high production cost, the current mainstream prices of high-grade silicon metal 3-3-03 in China firmly stand at RMB18,500-19,000/t (USD2,678-2,751/t) delivered to port, unchanged from early last week. Given the firm offers from suppliers, insiders predict the mainstream prices of silicon metal 3-3-03 in China would go firm next week.
A producer in Yunnan revealed that he couldn't accept any prices lower than RMB18,200/t (USD2,635/t) delivered to Kunming and he sold 60t at RMB18,500/t (USD2,678/t) delivered to Huangpu this week, unchanged from his price early last week. "Our production cost hits around RMB18,000/t (USD2,606/t) EXW D/P, and we have to hold price firm even though the market turned inactive," revealed the producer on Wednesday. He predicts the mainstream prices of silicon metal 3-3-03 in China would go firm next week.
With an annual production capacity of 18,000t of silicon metal, the producer expects to produce around 1,200t in March with two of its two furnaces of 12,500kVA in operation, in line with last month, holding around 800t in stock.
Another producer in Yunnan disclosed that his current offer for silicon metal 3-3-03 stands at RMB18,300/t (USD2,649/t) delivered to Kunming with no discount, and he sold 30t at the price this week, and he insisted on the same price early last week. "Some plants in Yunnan would stop production next week due to the short of electricity supply, and I believe prices of silicon metal 3-3-03 in China would maintain firm next week," disclosed the producer on Wednesday.
