Russia's coal production in 2022 up by 0.4% YOY

Data released on February 1 by Federal State Statistics Service of Russia showed that, Russia's coal production in December 2022 surged to about 45 million tons, up by 11.2% YOY and 8.2% MOM. In particular, the output of thermal coal was 21 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 13.4% and a month-on-month increase of 8.5%; that of coking coal was 11.3 million tons, up by 2.4% year-on-year and 4.1% month-on-month; that of anthracite was 2 million tons, down by 13.3% year-on-year while up by 8.8% month-on-month; and that of lignite recorded 9.9 million tons, up by 23.6% year-on-year and 11.6% month-on-month.
In 2022, the country's coal production accumulated 437 million tons, up by 0.4% compared with that in 2021, including 218 million tons of thermal coal (non-coking bituminous coal), down by 7.1% year on year; 105 million tons of coking coal, an increase of 4.5% year on year; 24.4 million tons of anthracite, a decrease of 3.5% year on year; and 89.4 million tons of lignite, rising by 19.7% year on year.
