South Korea's semiconductor exports down by 44.5% in Jan

According to the data report released by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Resources of South Korea on February 1, South Korea's semiconductor exports decreased by 16.6% year-on-year in January 2023, while its imports declined by 2.6% year-on-year, setting a record for the largest deficit in a single month.
Semiconductor is the largest product exported by South Korea. In January, the export amount of semiconductor from South Korea was only USD6 billion, in detail, the price of DRAM, NAND flash memory and other memory chips fell and the demand was low, resulting in a sharp decrease of 44.5% in semiconductor export from USD10.8 billion in the same period last year. Semiconductor exports have shrunk on a year-on-year basis for five consecutive months, and the decline is more than 27.8% last month.
