WBMS: Global primary aluminum market records surplus of 474,000t in Jan-Mar 2022

The global primary aluminum market was in a surplus of 474,000t for the period of January to March 2022, which followed a deficit of about 1.68 million tons recorded for the whole of 2021, according to data released by the World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS) on Wednesday.
The global demand for primary aluminum was 16.23 million tons in Jan-Mar 2022, a decrease of 727,000t from the same period of 2021.
From January to March 2022, the global output of primary aluminum declined by 0.4% from the same period of 2021. Although the supply of imported raw materials increased slightly in the first few months of 2022, China's output is estimated to be about 9.63 million tons, accounting for about 58% of the world's total output.
In March 2022, global primary aluminum output was about 5.7 million tons and the demand was about 5.54 million tons.
