China's crude stainless steel production down by 8% YOY in Q1 2022

On April 29, Stainless Steel Council of China Special Steel Enterprises Association released statistics on the production, import and export and apparent consumption of crude stainless steel in China in the first quarter (Q1) of 2022.
In the first quarter of 2022, the Chinese crude stainless steel output recorded about 8.011 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 697,000 tons or about 8% . In particular, the output of Cr-Ni stainless steel reached about 4 . 064 million tons, an increase of about 177,000 tons or 4 . 56%; that of Cr-Mn stainless steel was about 2 . 356 million tons, down by nearly 568,000 tons or 19 . 41%; the output of Cr-based stainless steel reported about 1 . 538 million tons, a decrease of about 300,000 tons or 16 . 33%; that of duplex stainless steel recorded 52,387 tons, down by about 6,340 tons or 10 . 8% compared to the same period last year.
In the first quarter of 2022, China imported nearly 944,900 tons of stainless steel, an increase of about 402,100 tons or 74.07% year-on-year; China exported about 1,062,100 tons of stainless steel, up by about 191,400 tons or 21 . 99% from the corresponding period last year.
In the first quarter of 2022, the apparent consumption of stainless steel was 7,099,900 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 436,600 tons or 5.79%.
