Japan's crude steel output down by 2.1% YOY in Jan

Japan's crude steel output recorded 7.76 million tons in January 2022, down by 2.2% MOM and 2.1% YOY, according to data released by Japan Iron and Steel Federation.
In January, the country's output of common steel products declined by 3.6% MOM and 2.8% YOY to 5.90 million tons, while that of special steel products reached 1.86 million tons, up by 2.4% MOM and 0.3% YOY.
During the month, Japan produced 5.83 million tons of converter steel, down by 1.8% MOM and 4.2% YOY, while its electric furnace steel production recorded 1.93 million tons, down by 3.5% MOM but up by 4.9% YOY.
The production of HR steel coil was 3.03 million tons in January, down by 7.5% from the prior month and 7.7% lower compared with a year ago. The production of H-beam steel profiles totaled 312,000 tons, down by 0.4% MOM while up by 4.6% YOY.
Japan produced 5.8 million tons of pig iron in the month, down by 1.8% MOM and 3.5% YOY.
