In January, Chinese nickel cathode prices moved up significantly. Most consumers purchased from hand to mouth while producers held back from selling when prices fell. The market witnessed limited deals due to the holidays in late January. Prices of Norilsk nickel cathode followed the trend of Chinese nickel cathode with limited supply.
Chinese nickel sulfate prices increased in January. Due to the increased prices of nickel cathode 99.96%min, nickel sulfate producers had to increase their prices even though the downstream stayed reluctant to purchase at such high prices, the market witnessed active deals in the end of January.
In January, Chinese ferronickel producers increased their prices encouraged by the increased prices of nickel cathode and most suppliers hold back from selling supported by the bullish attitudes. Meanwhile, downstream consumers replenished stocks for the holidays.
Transactions for imported lateritic nickel ore were stable this month. The monsoon in the Philippines resulted in less supply, meanwhile China's demand for the material began to decline. The market mainly saw long-term contracts and stable prices.
