European Commission initiates review investigation on case of safeguard measures for imported steel products

On December 17, 2021, the European Commission issued an announcement, deciding to initiate a review investigation on the safeguard measures case of certain steel products. The Commission intends to carry out this review in line with the following structure: (1) the allocation and management of tariff-rate quotas; (2) crowding-out of traditional trade flows; (3) ppdate of the list of developing WTO Member countries excluded from the scope of the measures based on their most recent level of imports; (4) level of liberalization; (5) changes in the US Section 232 measures; (6) other changes of circumstances that may require an adjustment to the level of allocation of the tariff-rate quota. The review results are expected to be made no later than June 30, 2022.
