Indian power supply enterprises' thermal coal imports hit new low again in Aug

The latest data from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) of India shows that in August 2021, Indian power supply enterprises imported about 1.92 million tons of thermal coal, a significant drop of 42.41% from about 3.34 million tons in the same period last year, and a decrease of 7.83% from about 2.09 million tons in July. This figure fell for the fourth consecutive month, and hit a new low since at least January 2018.
In August, in the coal imported by Indian power supply companies, about 1.49 million tons were used for power plants that directly use imported coal, and 434,600 tons were used for blending with domestic coal.
