Hlamalane to increase rare earth oxide output

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 12 Mar 21 - South African-based Hlamalane Projects, which owns a rare earth separation plant in Zambia, plans to increase its rare earth oxide output by 32t MoM to about 82t in March 2021, according to a source from the company.
"As we succeeded in getting more rare earth ore and steady electricity supply, we would produce around 82t of rare earth oxide, which contain 50t of cerium oxide 99.5%min, in March, while our outputs of total rare earth oxide and cerium oxide 99.5%min in February recorded only about 50t and 30t respectively," said the source.
Established in 2012, Hlamalane Projects owns an annual production capacity of 1,200t of rare earth oxide at present, up by 480t YoY. The company started producing rare earth oxide in Zambia from July 2019 and produced around 160t and 140t respectively in 2019 and 2020. Its output so far this year reached about 100t. It has an inventory of approximately 20t now, without much change MoM. The company mainly distributes their products to European buyers.
Current mainstream prices of cerium oxide 99.5%min in Zambia hover at USD1.9-2.0/kg FOB Zambia, in line with one week ago.
