MIIT to ban increase in total iron and steel production capacity in air pollution control key regions

In order to deepen the supply-side structural reform in iron and steel industry, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revised the measures for iron and steel industry production capacity replacement implementation and began to seek public opinions about the "measures for iron and steel industry production capacity replacement implementation (draft for comments)" from 16 December.
According to the new version of "measures for iron and steel industry production capacity replacement implementation (draft for comments)", the increase in total iron and steel production capacity is banned in air pollution control key regions. Provinces (regions, cities) failing to achieve total iron and steel production capacity control target are not allowed to accept iron and steel production capacity transferred by other areas . New iron and steel projects and expansion of such projects are prohibited outside compliant parks in the economic development belt along the Yangtze River.
