As a province with large tungsten resources reserves, Jiangxi produces nearly 100,000 tons of tungsten slag every year
Aiming at this "pain point", Jiangxi actively strives for and obtains the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment to carry out a trial of exemption management for "point-to-point" targeted use of tungsten slag. According to the requirements, the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment took the lead in formulating two local standards in Jiangxi, including the Technical Guidelines for the Utilization and Disposal of Tungsten Smelting Solid Waste, which were released at the end of October this year.
According to preliminary calculations, the introduction of the targeted utilization exemption mechanism can save Jiangxi tungsten smelting enterprises about RMB100 million (USD14.93 million) in processing costs each year, lowering the threshold for enterprise processing, and ensuring that environmental pollution risks are controllable.
In the next step, the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment will play the leading role of local standards to guide qualified cement kiln co-processing and vitrification processing units to carry out the pilot work of tungsten slag exemption management in accordance with local standards, and boost the tungsten industry in Jiangxi to achieve high-quality leapfrog development.
. Since tungsten slag was included in the National Hazardous Waste List in 2016, hazardous waste licenses are required to treat tungsten slag . The market cost of tungsten slag disposal remains high, so most tungsten smelting companies have long-term inventory of tungsten slag to reduce operating costs, making the environmental risk greater.Aiming at this "pain point", Jiangxi actively strives for and obtains the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment to carry out a trial of exemption management for "point-to-point" targeted use of tungsten slag.
