Jiangwu H.C. Starck Tungsten Products stops APT production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 3 Nov 20 - Due to the decline in the domestic price of APT 88.5%min and the firm price of raw material tungsten concentrate, Jiangwu H.C. Starck Tungsten Products Co., Ltd., one of major producers in Jiangxi, ceased production of APT 88.5%min last Tuesday and plans to resume production in early December. It produced 667t in October, a source from the company disclosed to Asian Metal.
The source said, "Due to the decline in current price, end consumers wait on the sidelines. We started to stop production of APT 88.5%min last Tuesday and initially plan to resume production in early December, with an output of 667t in October." At present, the price of APT 88.5%min is generally weakening, but due to the shutdown of the plant, their current price of APT 88.5%min is RMB126,000/t (USD18,811/t) EXW D/P. They can consider selling at RMB125,500/t (USD18,736/t) for firm bids from regular customers. They mainly delivered long-term cooperation orders in the past week.
With an annual production capacity of 6,000t of APT 88.5%min, the producer produced about 3,400t in 2019 and about 2,800t so far in 2020. They produced about 667t in October and about 420t in September. Except for the long-term agreement signed in December, they hold about 110t of stocks now.
Currently, mainstream prices for Chinese APT 88.5%min stay at RMB125,000-127,000/t (USD18,662-18,960/t) EXW D/P, stable from early this week.
