Magnesia prices fluctuated to different degrees in China in May. Due to environmental inspections in Dashiqiao and Haicheng, many dead burned magnesia producers halted production in April and May; meanwhile, many fused magnesia producers cut or halted production due to great pressure of stocks. As a result, dead burned magnesia prices started to go up and some fused magnesia producers also raised their prices. Prices for dead burned magnesia slowed down in increasing in mid-to-late May as some producers started to resume production, but prices for fused magnesia declined rapidly as it's hard for producers for the material to raise their prices affected by soft demand in the market.
China's export market for magnesia was still quiet in May. Overseas customers still took a cautious attitude in purchasing magnesia from China. As a result of the Sino-US trade war, America further lowered their purchase volumes from China. In addition, some overseas customers turned to refill stocks from Europe, Brazil and Middle East against the backdrop increased magnesia outputs there.
