Most Chinese magnesia producers didn't halt production during the Spring Festival holiday, leading to more stocks in the market. In February, downstream customers held sufficient stocks and were reluctant to refill stocks, resulting in limited transactions. Forced by great pressure of stocks and funds, magnesia producers lowered their prices successively. In particular, prices for high grade magnesia declined most as producers could generate generous profits by selling the material. In order to reduce stocks, some magnesia producers planned to cut or halt production in March. In addition, prices for magnesite series of refractory went down slightly in February as a result of lower prices for raw material.
The Chinese export market of magnesia saw limited orders and lower prices in February as overseas customers held sufficient stocks and were pessimistic about the market outlook.
