GEM and ECOPRO sign business cooperation MOU

GEM announced on late 23 December that GEM and South Korean battery material producer ECOPRO signed A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 22 December 2018 to promote businesses like high-nickel NCM precursor, sulfate, cobalt powder and basic nickel carbonate in South Korea to further improve the implementation of the cooperation between the two companies in lithium ion battery raw materials and high nickel NCA cathode materials.

According to the MOU, ECOPRO will purchase 170,000t of high-nickel NCA cathode materials from GEM in 2019-2023 with the purchase volume of 16,000t in 2019, 24,000t in 2020, 40,000t in 2021 and the purchase volumes of 2022-2023 to be negotiated. ECOPRO is one of the globally principle producers of the NCA cathode materials and the only external supplier of the NCA cathode materials to the Samsung SDI. As one of the largest lithium battery raw ingredient and materials producers in China, GEM has a complete industrial chain of producing lithium-ion battery raw materials out of waste batteries, waste nickel and cobalt resource.
