1. Market Highlights
Prices for silicon metal stopped from decreasing in China in January. Affected by the sharp increase of ferrosilicon prices, prices of low grade silicon metal rebounded during the month. Owing to the substantial increase of electricity charges in the dry season, silicon metal producers in South China halted production in large scales, leading to decreased supply and the rapid price rebound of low grade silicon metal. Meanwhile, influenced by the price rise of silicon metal in the domestic market and the appreciation of RMB, export prices of Chinese silicon metal went up and most overseas customers held a wait-and-see attitude with reluctance to refill stocks, resulting in the sluggish export market of Chinese silicon metal.
