China ends with three-year negative growth in coal consumption

Since early this year, Chinese economy has maintained a stable and improving growth trend
According to China National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), China’s GDP growth rate has remained in the range of 6.7-6 . 9% for nine consecutive months, and growth rate of its energy consumption also improved from 1% in 2015, 1 . 4% in 2016 to 2 . 8% in the first three quarters of 2017 . Growth rate of China’s electricity consumption increased from 0 . 5% and 5% to 6 . 9%, and that of its coal consumption turned from a three-consecutive-year negative growth rate into a positive one . Also in the first three quarters of 2017, China’s natural gas consumption grew by around 15 . 7%, a first two-digit growth rate in four years.
Back to coal consumption, driven by factors such as improving industrial production and increasing thermal power generation, China’s coal consumption amounted to around 2.81 billion tons in 2017 first three quarters . Except construction material industry, coal consumption by electricity, steel and chemical industries all grew at a positive rate, and coal consumption of the four industries accounted for 85% of the national total, up by 1 . 6 percentage points from the same period of last year.
. Its energy consumption continues to pick up, better than what was expected in early this year, and its coal consumption turned from negative into positive growth rates during the first three quarters.
