Xinjiang eliminates 11.45 million tons of coal capacity

In the first ten months of 2017, Xinjiang shut down 112 coal mines and had 11.45 million tons of coal capacity exit the market.
For the year of 2017, Xinjiang government aims to shut down 113 coal mines and eliminate 11.60-million-tons capacity By early November, it has achieved 98% of its 2017 annual goal.
Source had it that, of the 112 closed coal mines, one mine of 30,000tpy capacity is part of the 2018 shutdown targets and was closed in advance this year.
Coal mines to be shut down in 2017 are small-sized mines of less than 300,000tpy capacity and those which are unable to adopt mechanical mining and lack safe production equipment.
In 2016, Xinjiang shut down 21 coal mines which had a total production capacity of 2.74 million tons. Of the shutdown mines, quite a lot were mines which had been out of production for a long time or mines whose production costs were high while safety-work conditions were poor. By eliminating such backward capacities, production efficiency of Xinjiang’s coal industry was optimized.
Xinjiang boasts rich coal resources which are estimated to be 2.19 trillion tons, accounting for 40% of the national total. In the recent years, Xinjiang government has successfully drawn over 100 Chinese and overseas energy corporation aggregates to take part in local industries such as coal, coal power, and coal chemicals. In 2016, Xinjiang’s coal output amounted to 150 million tons.
