National Energy Administration: China cut 2.4 million KW of backward coal powder capacity in first three quarters

The National Energy Administration held a press conference on October 31st to introduce the energy situation and the development of renewable energy in the first three quarters of 2017. During the first three quarters, China had shut down about 2.4 million kilowatts of backward coal power units, and called off or suspended the construction of over 50 million kilowatts of coal power capacity. By the end of September 2017, China had transformed about 580 million kilowatts of coal power capacity to meet the ultra-low emission standard, two years ahead of the schedule to complete the target by 2020; and has transformed 530 million kilowatts of coal power capacity to meet the energy-saving standards, accounting for 85% of the target. In particular, Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Henan and several other provinces or cities had fulfilled the transformation target one or two years ahead of the plan.
