The Chinese vanadium market ran steadily in early July but saw prices surge late this month due to tight supply resulted from the environmental protection inspections. Prices for vanadium pentoxide rose by RMB89,000/t (USD6.06/t) with suppliers holding back from sales due to tight spot supply; while those for vanadium nitride 14%min and ferrovanadium 50%min rose by RMB122,000/t (USD23.3/kg V) and RMB89,000.t (USD26.17/kg V) respectively. Insiders thought that vanadium prices will hold high in August considering tight supply of vanadium pentoxide.
During July, export prices for Chinese vanadium products climbed up quickly late this month pushed by the domestic market trend though they moved steadily early this month. By late July, export prices for Chinese vanadium pentoxide flake 98%min and ferrovanadium 50%min increased by USD6.48/lb V and USD22.0/kg from early July. But the export market saw no new orders expect for long-term contracts.
