Prices for steel plate rose further by over RMB200/t (USD30/t) in major Chinese domestic markets during the month boosted by prices increases of raw materials and those in the steel futures market, but the market performance showed no signs of improving coupled with end users’ wait-and-see attitudes. Meanwhile, the rigid demand was absent influenced by continuous rains in the South and the high temperature in the North. Considering the contradiction between the price increase and the poor sales performance, traders held cautiously optimistic attitudes towards the market outlook and were inactive in building large inventories. Insiders think the steel plate price is likely to go up slightly in August.
