MIIT convenes inter-ministerial coordination group conference for backward production capacity elimination

On May 8th, Zhang Feng, a Party member of MIIT and chief engineer, presided the inter-ministerial coordination group conference for backward production capacity elimination. Zhang explained last year inter-ministerial coordination group members, focusing on industries of iron & steel, coal, cement, plate glass and other industries, has eliminated backward capacity of 6.77 million tons of iron, 10.96 million tons of steel, 320,000 tons of electrolytic aluminum, 5.59 million tons of cement clinker, and 33.40 million weight cases of plate glass, and shut down more than 1,500 small scaled coalmines with capacity below 300,000tpy, which involves coal capacity of more than 100 million tons. The achievement has played an important role in defusing excess capacity in iron & steel, coal and other industries, and promoting energy saving and emission reduction.
