Se is the symbol for selenium, which is a chemical element in group VI A of the periodic table with an atomic number of 34. Selenium has similar chemical proper ties to sulfur as both belong to the same group. Although a nonmetallic element, selenium does have some metal properties. It was discovered by Berzelius, a Swedish chemist, from the sticky substances in the bottom of a lead chamber at a sulfuric acid plant. Selenium is mainly produced from the anode mud of cathode copper.
