Influenced by the increased production cost, prices of wire rod and rebar generally recorded an upward trend this month. Those in East China and South China rebounded by around RMB200/t (USD30/t) while those in North China only increased by around RMB80/t (USD12/t) due to the shrank demand from building sites. Steel mills showed strong intention to lifting prices seeing sharp price increases of coke and steel billet, raw materials of wire rod and rebar. However, the demand from downstream consumers remained stagnant. Insiders predict that prices for wire rod and rebar are likely to fluctuate and generally record a downward trend in the coming month.
