Limited activity was witnessed during February on the spot market of cobalt metal due to the long break of Chinese New Year holiday. Prices of the material have been under downward pressure given ample of supply. A few suppliers liquidated stocks at the eve of the Chinese New Year, dragging down the mainstream market price. The market continued to run slowly after the holiday and with inventories in the free market rising, suppliers were under increasing pressure of sales. However, they insisted on keeping their offers firm given the spreading rumors about the SRB’s plan of stockpiling the metal.
