The ferrochrome market was quiet throughout December. The high carbon ferrochrome supply remained tight, but the sluggish steel market ensured prices stayed at a low ebb. Meanwhile, the low carbon ferrochrome market saw soft demand from end users and prices fell marginally early in the month. In the mid-to-latter part of December, however, supply was relatively well attuned to demand, enabling prices to hold firm in the second half of the month.
Many ferrochrome producers had suspended or reduced production in the preceding months, so the market saw limited purchasing activity in respect of chrome ore. Meanwhile, many traders were watching the market, leaving their stocks to reduce at ports. However, the overall chrome market was subdued, while the chrome ore market remained stable through the month.
