A source from a major smelter in South China with a capacity of 15,000tpy told Asian Metal that they quote RMB43/kg (USD6.99/kg) and RMB38/kg (USD6.18/kg) for battery and industrial grade lithium carbonate respectively this week, and noted that the prices will be lifted up further at the end of December or early next January.
“There is a significant increase in inquiries, but our materials are in short supplies,” said the source, expecting to see RMB45/kg (USD7.32/kg) and RMB40/kg (USD6.5/kg) for battery and industrial grade lithium carbonate next January . “People always buy more when the price keeps going up, so we have reason to believe a further increase.”
Another smelter in South China with a capacity of 6,000tpy also increases the price of battery lithium carbonate to RMB43/kg (USD6.99/kg) this week . Similarly, they don’t have enough stocks to receive new orders . “All of our materials have been reserved late last month,” said a source from the smelter . “The price will keep going up amid the current market.”
Last month, the smelter quoted RMB42/kg (USD6.83/kg) for battery lithium carbonate and concluded deals at between RMB41.5-42/kg (USD6 . 75-6.83/kg), according to the source.
