Chinese bauxite imports from Malaysia exceed 2 million tonnes in April

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 26 May 15 - According to China Customs, China imported around 2.07 million tonnes of bauxite from Malaysia in April, up by 41 . 8% MOM . In the first four months, China imported around 4 . 56 million tonnes of bauxite from Malaysia in total . From January to April, China imported around 14 . 77 million tonnes of bauxite in total, up by 2 . 4% YOY.

The above graph shows that Chinese bauxite import volume from January to April kept climbing up. The volume increase was mainly from Malaysian bauxite import . From the following graph, we know that from January to April, Chinese bauxite imports from Malaysia rose continuously.
The figure for Malaysian bauxite import in April was actually attributed to supply increase in March, when more Malaysian bauxite owners and Chinese buyers went into the market. Many ships departing from Malaysia in late March arrived in China in April.
From early April, in consideration of environment protection, Malaysia took inspection policy on bauxite land transportation. Those bauxite owners without necessary licenses are not allowed for bauxite sales and transportation, so they are forced to halt or cut production . Therefore, Chinese bauxite imports from Malaysia will decline in May.
Chinese bauxite buyers focus on low grade Malaysian bauxite Al 40%min Si 5%max and prices are around USD29-30/t FOB Malaysia. Although from early April, Malaysian bauxite supply began decreasing because of bauxite land transportation control, prices did not go up.
