High-grade Malaysian bauxite supply likely to increase after April

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 31 Mar 15 - Prices for high-grade Malaysian bauxite stayed firm, and the supply is likely to increase after April, since many owners are managing to develop high-grade bauxite.
A bauxite owner from Malaysia revealed that they planned to provide bauxite Al 44-45% from this May. “We plan to supply around 45,000t of the material per month from May,” said the source, who has no offer for the material at the moment.
The price for bauxite Al 46% holds firm at USD46-47/t FOB Malaysia right now and the supply is rare.
According to the source, demurrage cost is high in Guantan port, and they plan to make use of Kemaman port in the future, where a vessel with 60,000t of bauxite is available.
A Chinese trader, holding one ship of Malaysian bauxite Al 45-46% Si 3%max in warehouse, planned to import more high grade bauxite from April or May, around one ship per month. “We are planning to offer USD56-57/t CIF China for the material,” said the source.
The high-grade Malaysian bauxite supply in the market is scarce, so the price is firm.
The trader now focuses on low grade bauxite business, and the price for bauxite Al 40-41% remained stable at around USD29-31/t FOB Malaysia.
