Cobalt sulfate inquires increase but price stable

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 23 Jan 15 - Inquiries for cobalt sulfate start to increase this week in terms of the restocking from downstream consumers, but participants reported stable prices of RMB41,000/t (USD6,602/t) and RMB42,500/t (USD6,844/t) for cobalt sulfate 20%min and 20.5%min respectively.
A source from a smelter in South China with an output of more than 100tpm reported a price of RMB42,500/t (USD6,844/t) for cobalt sulfate 20.5%min this week, the same as that of early this month. “We know somebody offers 43,000 (USD6,924/t), but our price is unchanged,” said the source, but added that they intend to raise the price again next week or early February.
Commenting on the trend, the source said cobalt sulfate price will keep rising in Q1. “The (cobalt sulfate 20.5%min) price is likely to stay in a range of RMB42,500-43,000/t (USD6,844-6,924/t) before the Spring Festival, and then go up to RMB44,000-45,000/t (USD7,085-7,246/t) after the festival.”
As for cobalt sulfate 20%ming, sources reported a stable price of RMB41,000/t (USD6,602/t) this week. “We offer RMB41,500/t (USD6,682/t), deals are concluded at RMB41,000/t (USD6,602/t),” said a source from a smelter in South China with an output of 60tpm, expecting that the price will keep unchanged this month.
According to the source, the smelter raised the price from RMB40,500/t (USD6,522/t) to RMB41,000/t (USD6,602/t) at the beginning of January with orders finalised at the new level.
