The rainy season influences Malaysian bauxite exports

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 19 Nov 14 - Malaysia is faced with the rainy season, and part bauxite export deals have been influenced, which may support the export price for a while.
A bauxite owner in Malaysia speaking with Asian Metal revealed that they could supply 500,000t of bauxite each month if the weather is good. “However, we are managing to provide 300,000tpm because of the heavy rain recently,” said the source.
They offer around USD33/t FOB Malaysia for bauxite Al 40-41% Si 3%max. “I think the price may not go down as the cost is rising . The oil price in Malaysia is climbing up in spite of the decreasing price worldwide,” said the source . In the future, they will be able to supply high-grade washed bauxite.
Another bauxite owner in Malaysia confirmed that the rainy season affected their bauxite exports. “We planned to export one ship of bauxite this year, but the rainy season comes,” said the source . “It was rainy recently . It was rainy for two weeks in the same time last year, but I’m not clear about this year.”
The owner can supply bauxite Al 40%min, but they may not be able to conclude any deal this year because of the rain.
According to Asian Metal, the price for Malaysian bauxite Al 40% is around USD32-33/t FOB Malaysia.
