Chinese manganese flake price to decrease

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 22 May 13 - Affected by gloomy economy, the Chinese manganese flake market remains sluggish and some suppliers lower quotations to promote sales. Insiders deemed that the price is likely to decrease to RMB12,900-13,000/t (USD2,100-2,116/t) ex-works in the near future.
A Chongqing-based manganese producer told Asian Metal that his quotation for manganese flake is at RMB13,100/t (USD2,133/t) for the time being, decreasing by RMB100/t (USD16/t) compared with that he offered last week.
With a manganese flake production capacity of 3,000tpm, the source revealed that he sold 160t of the material at the above-mentioned price in the past few days. “The market price is likely to decrease in the short term as the economy shows no signs of recovery,” said the source.
A Hunan-based manganese producer agreed that the ex-works price may decrease to be at below RMB13,000/t (USD2,116/t) in the coming two weeks, offering RMB13,100/t (USD2,133/t) for the material.
“Some suppliers quote RMB12,900/t (USD2,100/t) for future goods, being unconfident of the coming market,” said the source. Besides, he disclosed that the local electricity price remains unchanged at RMB0.65-0.72/KWH (USD0.11-0.12/KWH) temporarily.
