1. Market Highlights
Early this month, Chinese silicomanganese prices showed a frim trend. Affected by the environmental protection inspection, some silicomanganese plants suspended production, and major plants held insufficient stocks, resulting in a firm price. However, in South China, purchase prices from some major steel mills decreased to below RMB7,500/t (USD1,120/t) Inc-VAT delivered D/A, while the highest were only RMB7,550/t (USD1,128/t) Inc-VAT delivered D/A; the EXW D/P prices were RMB100-150/t (USD 14 . 94-22.41/t) less than those in North China . Consumers almost finished purchasing, but silicomanganese prices were likely to move up as the environmental protection inspection team continues to inspect South China . In mid-to-late June, as the environmental protection inspection went on in major producing areas, Chinese silicomanganese spot prices still showed a frim trend. Supported by various favorable factors, mainstream prices for silicomanganese further went up to RMB8,000-8,200/t (USD1,195-1,225/t) Inc-VAT EXW D/P late this month . Steel mills opened biddings for silicomanganese by the end of June, then silicomanganese demand released, and the market saw more transactions at high prices gradually. Major steel mill HBIS's purchase price for silicomanganese for July was RMB8,600/t (USD1,284/t) Inc-VAT delivered D/A 6 months, up by RMB1,000/t (USD149/t) compared with that for June.
Manganese prices in Chinese market continued to go up this month. The purchase price of HBIS was higher than expected; consumers gradually accepted the increased manganese ore prices, and the market saw more transactions.
